Five days into Forty Three Day Vacation

We had a few glitches in our travel here but all worked out and we spent our first night in Anchorage at Ship Creek RV Park. The second day we stocked the motor home with food and supplies and went to Williwaw Primitive camp ground. Our view was a glacier and waterfall from our primitive camp ground. We also went to an animal conservatory. They had all the main animals in Alaska including musk ox, moose, elk, wolves, brown and black bears. The animals were in large areas and appeared very content. They were also acclimated to people gawking at them. I tried uploading some pictures but it appears campground wifi is not up to it. We then spent two days at the Skilak Lake wilderness area in another primitive camp site. Our site was on the water of Skilak Lake. Every direction we look is spectacular. The forests, lakes, glaciers, and mountains are beautiful. So very much land with no buildings at all. Today (7/26 Friday) we arrived in Soldotna and I tried my hand at fishing for Red Salmon and found it beyond my novice skills. You can only use a bare hook and hope to catch them by the mouth as they swim by (what?). I could not, but many did very well at it. Our site in Soldotna is not primitive (electric, water, and sewer). We took long hot showers and put on clean cloths. Tomorrow we will do some activities in Soldotna and then we will go to Homer. The next day is our Halibut charter fishing trip and the day after that is bear viewing in the Lake Clark Wilderness area across Cook Inlet. The day after that we are going to the Kilcher homestead where they film “Alaska, the Last Frontier”. I am not shaving during this entire trip and at day five I am already pretty bearded. What are those grey hairs all about? The campsite in Homer is on the beach on the tip of Homer Spit (four miles long). Again, four days without electric hookup. We do have a generator, so not so rough. We just have to manage our water/sewer/propane/electric so it lasts until we can resupply. Today we heard the Alaskan Marine Highway workers are on strike. If that does not end before our reservation to cross from Whittier to Valdez, we will be in trouble. The ferry can take our RV across in six hours but to drive around is a lot of miles and multiple days. That would change our plans big time and cause a ripple affect of cancelling reservations we have already paid for. Well that is enough for now. I will try again for pictures if I can get decent wifi and it will be a while before we have any internet at all. We are having a great time and will have tall tales when we get home in September (and pictures too).
