We are in Homer Alaska

Sorry, but these campground wifi systems are very, very slow and I can not upload pictures at this site or the last one. I will try each one as we go. The Eagles Nest site in Valdez looks like a fancy RV park. We spend three days there so maybe pictures (I hope so). We did our Halibut charter yesterday and now we are figuring out how we can handle 26 pounds of halibut fillets. We got three of the four we were allowed. I did release one for being over the keeper size for eating. We told the captain we were only keeping eating size fish. Helen got a very nice 16 lb halibut and I got a 24 lb and a 8 lb. The weather was nice and the seas were fairly light. Still could not walk on boat without holding on to something. We both took Bonine for sea sickness and we both did fine (we even ate lunch aboard. We took some halibut to a restaurant and they prepared it for us. Wow that was sooo good! And we could not eat it all, so halibut for breakfast too. We are going to the Kilcher homestead today from the tv series :Alaska the Last Frontier. Our boat captain Jay grew up with the Kilchers and gave us some background info about the family members they do not mention on the tv program. Mostly nice comments but a little gossip too. Then tomorrow we have a boat ride to the other side of the bay and we have trails to hike there. Then our last day in Homer we cross Cook Inlet in a small boat (might be a little rough) to do bear watching on the beach. That is when we pick up our vacuum packed 24 lbs of Halibut in Homer and head to our Klondike RV park in Soldotna. We have had three days of rain which they needed to kill a forest fire near here. So we were OK with that. Yesterday it cleared for our halibut charter and we were so glad. Today looks great too. We would be please if tomorrow it was not raining for our trail walk. We will take the weather as it comes and make the best of it. So far, so good. My beard is long and scratchy now and not trimmed to perfection (or at all). By the end of our journey I may look so scruffy they may not let me on the plane. I may keep it a month back home so I can attend my various HAM radio club meetings before shaving. I do look different with the beard. As several people suggested, we are taking picture with us in them (not just wildlife and scenery. We are getting ready now for the days activities and I will post again when we can. When you visit our web site do not forget to play the Johnny Horton song “Way up North”.

Well we did the Hike [Death March] of 4.8 miles of up and down at amazing angles with branches, rocks, boulders, tree roots, and a million tiny (no bite) flies. They called it a ‘moderate’ hike, but not for 70 year olds.

Reached the Beach with no idea how hard the exit would be (another 1.5 miles)

Well earned rest before Phase Two of Hike
Notice Icebergs in lake from Glacier in Background
Lots of Bear warning signs – mother with cubs in area
Did I mentioned our rescue of a capsized boat on the way Back from Hike?

Grand Finally in Homer was Hobo Jim at AJs Steak House after the Hike of Death.

Wishing you the best with the rest of the trip.
