We have two days to play in Anchorage and then the flight home. We traveled from Nenana to Talkeetna. This was a small town but very nice and we took the ‘Hurricane Train’ from Talkeetna to Hurricane Gulch and back. That is a local train that will stop anywhere to let off people for cabins, hiking, boating, or whatever. We enjoyed our day on the train. After Telkeetna we went to the Alaska State Fair in Palmer Alaska. This is a big deal! It is WELL attended and big! We have a folk singer we really like that has been performing at the fair for 38 years. Hobo Jim was made officially the ‘Alaskan Balladeer’ by the governor and legislature in 1982. We have had occasion to talk with him several times now. He also performed in Homer at AJ’s steakhouse when we were there. We really like his music about Alaska. He has had many jobs over the years before music supported him. Many years commercial fishing, lumberjack, cattle, riding the rails and it was interesting seeing him equal a professional lumberjack in axe throwing. It is sad to see that the streets of Anchorage are full of homeless hanging around gas stations, street corners, stores, parks, and everywhere. It makes it worrisome to walk the streets. That is starting to be a problem in Fairbanks as well. We had a tour bus ride through Denali to the end of the highway in Kantishna at mile 92.5. We saw a dozen Grizzlies, and Moose, and Caribou. We had a rare sighting of a Linx that I did not get on camera (it was amazing to see). About 30% of people get to see Denali peaks during there trip. We did! OK, I forgot to put one here … so you need to see our 29 hour presentation when we get home (LOL) … yeh, really not going to do that to you. Some of you know that Helen and I got sick after about two weeks here. We were cruising with many foreign people in close quarters and probably caught a flu we are not accustom to. We have visited clinics who prescribed over-the-counter cures. That has not worked. We are coming home sick. We have really loved our trip and had a great time. Being sick for four weeks now, we are ready for home and hopefully a cure. I know the website could have been better. The problem is the internet at RV camp sites are very low band width. When (if?) we get home and get better (if?), then superior material can be presented.
All our best to our friends who have followed our exploits.
