We are in a very small village of about 240 people, but they have a micro brewery and I could live here. In Fairbanks we went on the Discovery III steer wheel boat to a fish camp. They had about 20 buildings including a post office, fish smoke house, and many more. The wild fire has closed the Parks highway and the train for several days. They are not getting rain to help with the fire. Tomorrow we are going to Denali for three days then we need to go through the fire area of the highway. People are waiting 8 hours in 20 mile long traffic jam to cross the area with a pilot vehicle. The only other route would take two days and 650 miles to bypass the 20 miles of fire. We are hoping for the best. They are evacuating locals from the fire area. This is a very serious problem. The Princess Cruise vacations that include the train to Denali and Fairbanks are being cancelled for a lot of days. Most people in Fairbanks and Anchorage are taking the long route through Glennallen which takes 2.5 hours and 150 more miles to avoid the Parks highway fire problems. Helen has managed to find three quilt stores on our Alaska journey. Some items are coming home with us. At this point it appears we will have to leave some things we brought from home to accommodate the new treasures.
